« On a les arbitres qu’on mérite ! » L’accès aux fonctions d’arbitre du football amateur

Abstract : This article aims at analysing the structural social description of a group of football amateur referees through the evolution from their engagement, their solicitation, their training to their grading. Such an engagement is linked to a constraining federal regulation, both economically and sportingly, which leads to a competition between football clubs. The regulation mechanisms of the two identified refereeing markets aiming at insuring all the matches and at selecting federal elite, also generate many relegations (sporting, associating, federal). Referees descended from working classes are more after concerned by this relegation, whatever ages they started their career.
